What do you think of the name Axel?

I really love this name, i think it's strong and masculine and different without being weird which is hard to achieve with boys names.
The only issue I have is that I think of the word Axle and imagine the axles of a car.

Bad connotations considering Axl Rose is a royal prick

I really like Axel! It's distinctive but perfectly usable.
ETA: Wowza! I had no idea it was so popular (#160) in the U.S.! I still think it's distinctive.

Really dislike it. It sounds horrible and stupid. Something a teenage boy obsessed with cars would rename himself to try to be "cool".
I think it's a really cool name, and not too "out-there." However, I have a friend whose best friend in high school was Axel, and school officials constantly called him Alex. So there's that problem.

It's alright. It has a "cool" vibe to it. I know a few Axels, they're all pretty young and one used to be a bit obnoxious (but probably just because he was 13 :P) I wouldn't be disappointed if I met an Axel, but I think it works better on a teenager or 20-something than on a baby. It's a name you have to grow into a little.
Seems a bit like a 'trendy' version of Alex. Or maybe someone was typing too fast and mixed up the letters. And it's a part of a car. Not really my cup of tea.
Not a fan. The Axl Rose thing is too much
It makes me think of Axl Rose a bit too much. The sound isn't really appealing, either.
It is okay, but I wouldn't use it personally because it is a part of a car.
I like Axel, and I think it's a perfectly normal name. That said, I'm Swedish. I think it might be a bit odd on an American kid, but it could work. I do think of Axl Rose and that tv show where the kids names are Axl, Brick and..Sue?
That TV show is called The Middle. The name also makes me think of it.
Well, as a figure skater, the first thing that pops into my head is the axel jump. But beyond that, I think it sounds like it's trying too hard to be macho.
