Scarlett nn Cat is a big stretch, but really anything goes as a nn. I know a Robert who always goes by Buddy and a Gene who always goes by Trey, and the only trouble is that they have to explain to everyone how they got their nn's.

I personally like Kat much more than Cat. I would use it as a nn for Katherine or Katarina, but there's also Katrina, Caitlin, Catelina, etc. Maybe Scarlett Kathy or Sarlett Mother's-Maiden-Name to honor instead?
