[Opinions] Roma
What are your thoughts on the name Roma? As a girls' name (it's listed here as a boy's name also).

One of the ladies at the nursery is Roma, I thought it was her real name until I heard her on the phone making an appointment and her full name is actually Rosemary! Well, who knew? But I was pleasently surprised and Roma does really suit her.
I think it alright, not loving it. I prefer Roman (on a boy, obviously). Or Roma as a nickname for something.

It reminds me too much of the Roma people and the Italian name for the city of Rome.
Gypsies and Tomatoes... not a good combination in my mind for a name.

I like it. It's not a name I think about often, but I remember liking it when I first heard it. I think I first heard it as a word meaning Rome, and then thought of it as a place name (so I didn't associate it with Roma tomatoes).
Also, I don't think the tomatoes are a "bad" association at all. People name their kids Apple! Roma isn't even directly the name of a fruit, it's not like naming your kid "Tomato". More like Mercedes-- it's a name first and a car second (although I think Mercedes = car a lot more strongly than Roma = tomato.)

I want to stick an "A" in front of it. Not my thang.
it's a good name for tomatoes
ciao!
ciao!
I really like it (I'm also a big fan of Roman, on a boy), but I feel like Roma tomatoes and Roma gypsies will always be associated with it. A common vegetable and an ethnic group are a lot harder to shake off than, say, Selena's association with Selena Gomez, who will most likely fade in popularity.
But Delilah is really popular, so if you love it enough to disregard connotations, go for it. It's a lovely sounding name.

There's also the association with the Italian football/soccer team Roma. They're pretty well-known here in England and I guess in Europe.
It makes me think of the Roma people.
