I really like Ambrose and have for a while. I say AM-brose, just like it looks. I would consider naming a son Ambrose. It seems to have suddenly started appearing all over name forums though... is it some new pop culture reference that I'm missing? maybe something in the air?

See, Ambrose always makes be think of Ambrose Bierce and he was such an odd, strange, weirdly hilarious curmudgeon that I love that vibe he gives to the name.

Another namesake which Ambrose has, apparently, is Ambrose Burnside, after whom sideburns were named. Thanks wiki! I've learnt something new today and now I can sit on my arse and watch trash tv :P

And so I think it's a pretty cool name. I love it as a middle name - I really do - and its quirky, grumpy, old-man-ness, verging on hipster but too uncool even for them. And as a first name, I wouldn't complain seeing little Ambroses running around!

Pronounced AM as in I am, and brose like Rose with a b in front.

I knew a schoolboy whose nn was Ambrose. He accepted it readily and nobody found it amusing - it just seemed to suit him. I find it a bit too ecclesiastical for comfort, but others would see it differently.

I like it. You'll probably get comments on it being too feminine, but that's just because it has the word "rose" in it. I say it "AM-bros," basically just as it's spelt. It reminds me of an 1800s Southern gentleman.

I think it's gorgeous, I pronounce it AM-broze giving the 's' quite a heavy 'z' sound

However there is a wrestler called Dean Ambrose and he pronounces it with no Z whatsoever, kind of like AM-bross. I don't like that version as much but it's still nice

My grandmother's brother was named Ambrose. He pronounced it am-broze.

Sometimes I think Ambrose sounds warm, friendly, and intellectual. Other times, it comes off as snooty and pale in a sickly, too-weak-to-go-outdoors way. I like it well enough today.
