Khumbo! Good one, and indeed means 'wish'. That's really cute actually.
Chisomo means grace so I think that meaning is more than a stretch...
Mphatso would be the Chewa equivalent of Chawezi. :)
Not sure about Imikizani?? Pretty sure that's not Chichewa and def doesn't mean that. As David is presumably Chichewa-speaking he might shed some light. I only speak intermediate Chichewa
I had a peruse of that book - very interesting! Would like to get my hands on a hard copy, it's fascinating. The part about various names of an individual is dead-on, too. Love it! As far as I know most of the names I posted in this thread are unisex. In fact I thought the majority of Chewa names weren't really gendered (although some were used more on one gender than the other) but I could be wrong. A couple of the names in the book he had down as 'male' or 'female' and I've seen 'em on both.
