Message: "Callan?" - Behind the Name

DH and I have around 8 wks left to go before we have our boy. We've discussed names and changed lists so many times! I like Callum, but he doesn't like the "um" ending, so I suggested Callan and he said yes. I see on the site that the original spelling is Cailean, which is cool, but I could definitely see it as being pronounced "Kay-leen" all the time. What are your thoughts on this name? I like softer sounding names, but do you think it's too feminine? Big sister is Grace Catherine. Thanks!

Really nice name, and not feminine at all IMO. Sounds fantastic as a brother for Grace.

I've not heard Callan before, but it does not strike me as feminine; I automatically thought of Allan and Callahan. If you are concerned about that perhaps you could go with Callahan (still soft-sounding, but familiar as masculine) and use Callan as a nickname. I do think Cailean would be mispronounced all the time and might be mistaken as feminine.

I really like Callan, it was in the running for our DD as was Caelan (prn kay-lan). I prefer it over Callum. I also like softer sounding names for boys. It goes well with Grace, I think.

I like it! I think I slightly prefer Callahan but Callan is great too. I'd spell it Callan to avoid any pronunciation problems. It looks more "namey" with that spelling anyway

I really like Callan. I vaguely like Callum, but Callan is much better IMO (it's something I'd actually use). Cailean does look cool, but Callan is easier to pronounce and looks more unassuming. It's a bit soft, but not feminine at all IMO.

I like Callan. It's better than Callum and it also goes better with Grace. I don't think it's too feminine at all, and even if it was, why would it matter? There's nothing wrong with being feminine or having a feminine name. :)

Callan's cool. I wouldn't worry about the original spelling too much. Thought about Callahan?
