[Opinions] Re: French Names
in reply to a message by Bear
I've never seen it before, but Nolwenn sounds and looks Welsh. I love Welsh names.
How do you pronounce Jehanne?Vercingetorix looks FANTASTIC. Call him Torix for short.
I actually have a character called Loïc, but I had forgotten that was French, I guess.
How do you pronounce Aristide in French? I've only ever said Aristides and it's Greek.
What about Dieudonné?
(What kind of device do you use? I know special character shortcuts on a lot of them. Maybe I could help?)

I've never gotten a straight answer on Jehanne. I been using the same French pronunciation as Jeanne ("zhan," rhyming with Ann, can, plan, etc.). But lately I did hear it as "zhay-AHN." I have no idea if the British / English narrator was correct or not. I'm still waiting for a French speaker to be sure. Sorry.Aristide in French is exactly like Aristides, but without the final "eez" on the end, "ar-is-TEED." Dieudonne is fabulous. He's on my long list and I always think of Dieudonne and Tousaint in the same GP way. "DYEU-dun-ay" (The vowel in the 1st syllable is the same as in should, could, would, etc.)

Thanks! Dieudonne is just rocking my world right now.
