[Opinions] Antigone
Wdyt of this name? I know about the play and I have read it, so I'm not that bothered by the association/tragedy. What do you think? Do you prefer Hermione to Antigone? Other names I like and will probably use before Antigone are Persephone, Cordelia and Isadora. What middle names for Antigone, if you have any?

I love love love Antigone! I'd so use it. My favorite combo is Antigone Violet. Something simple works best I think. I think Antigone goes great with your other names. I also love Calliope.

I love Antigone! (Mostly because of the character association. I know it's a tragedy but I think the character is a good role model...) I'd use Antigone as a middle name. If I used it as a first name I'd probably use a nickname like Annie or Ani.
I like Hermione and Antigone. I slightly prefer the sound of Hermione but if I had to use one right now it would probably be Antigone.
I also love Cordelia and Isadora. I like Persephone as well but I wouldn't use it on a kid, but I'd be really happy if I saw it on someone else's kid. (I'd totally use it on a cat though :P)Antigone Rain
Antigone Lilith
Antigone Hermione
Antigone Cressida
Antigone River
Antigone Raine
Antigone Laurel
Antigone Sage
Antigone Isis
Antigone Cordelia
Antigone Cressinda
Antigone Opal
Antigone Violet
Antigone Morgan
Antigone Isadora
Antigone Isidora
Antigone Lysandra

I know how Antigone is pronounced, but I always just want to say "anti-gon", as it is spelled phonetically. This puts me off somewhat.I definitely prefer Hermione. Thanks to Harry Potter, everyone knows how to spell and pronounce it and, while remaining unusual, it is much more useable in real life than Antigone.Persephone, Cordelia and Isadora are all beautiful and preferable to Antigone in my opinion.

I think it's okay, but I definitely prefer Persephone or Cordelia. I don't care for Hermione or Isadora, though.

I much prefer Hermione over Antigone. I don't like that Antigone has "anti" right in there, and it's just too steeped in tragedy for me, dragging Oedipus like a ball and chain with nothing positive or neutral to lighten the burden. I think it's a depressing name, overall. I love Cordelia, but I hate the myth of Persephone, and I've never liked Isadora/Isidora. If I had to choose, fwiw, I'd pick Isadora over Persephone and Persephone over Antigone.

When I told my dh about the play / story of Antigone, it made the name more attractive to him. Dying to honor a loved one? Defying society to do it? Catnip to my sweetie. :-) Strong female role models are important. Antigone has the added attraction of neat nns like Annie, Tigs, or Tiggers (when young). Antigone has that hard "g" sound in the middle that I'm beginning to be drawn to more and more -- heavy, non-frilly sounds. Love them. If we had ever had a girl, Antigone definitely would have been in the running.Antigone Jane (just to ease things off)
Antigone Laurel
Antigone Petra
Antigone Cora
Antigone Frances
Antigone Maia
Antigone Callisto
Antigone Freya (I love mixing mythological sources)
Antigone Pearl
Antigone Thora
Antigone Thea
Antigone Clara
Antigone Victoria (victorious Antigone!)
Antigone Rachel
Antigone Damaris ("DAM-uh-ris")
Antigone Katharine
Antigone Honor / Honour

I like the sound of Antigone, but probably wouldn't use it. IRL, I'd use Hermione, Cordelia, or Isadora. Persephone has the nns of Perse (like purse) and Phone.

I find it interesting, but it's not a name I'd personally use. I definitely prefer Hermione to Antigone (I would use Hermione.) I also love Cordelia.I think Antigone is likely to be mispronounced as "AN-tee-gone" because a lot of people aren't familiar with the play.
