[Opinions] Vance and Courtney
Two names that have been on my mind lately for different reasons...
I don't even know how I came across Vance but now it's got me in its grasp and I can't stop thinking about it. Opinions on Vance? I like it's simplicity; easy to pronounce, easy to spell, and yet it's different. Combos that jump into your head with Vance in the first and middle name spots?
Onto Courtney. I have met three in my life so far; two are girls, and the other a boy. One of the Courtney's is my cousin whom I am very close to and lately I've been thinking that in the future it would be nice to honour her as I am honouring my other cousin (her brother) - they have both been a big part of my life. However on a girl I find Courtney trendy and I can imagine that it is not very popular on here. But what about on a boy? After being a good friend of a boy named Courtney I have no problem with seeing it on a boy. Of course it would be his middle name, what do you think? Will he get teased or since it's in the mn spot and honouring, would you make an exception? Combos and all opinions welcome!
Thanks :)

The only Courtney I know is male. However I know a female Courtenay. I think it is OK on a boy. He would be less likely to be teased with it in the middle spot.

That's a coincidence; Vance has been on my mind lately too. I think it deserves much more use than it is given. To me it sounds masculine and strong but not aggressive the way, say, Lance does. At the same time it is quietly quirky and different.
Courtney is the epitome of a trendy name, to me. I can see using it in the mn spot, though; it will hardly be noticed.

Vance is unattractive to me. It sort of reminds me of a cheap romance novel stud, or a fifties throwback troublemaker like in a lot of Stephen King books.
I like Courtney on a girl. It might have been trendy back in the early seventies, but it definitely lost that trendiness long before now. I think it's gross on a boy, like the name a sitcom writer would give the stereotypical obnoxious nerdy boy. I would honor your male friend Courtney by using his middle name, if he has one, or letting him pick the name, if honoring him is that important. Much nicer on a girl.

Sorry I thought I'd made it clear that I'm honoruing my cousin, not my friend.
For some reason, I get a WWF-wrestler vibe from Vance. I don't even follow the "sport" or know if there is a Vance, but that's the picture in my mind and I don't like it. On the other hand, I could totally go for Vince/Vincent/Vinny. You are right though, it's simple, easy to pronounce/spell, yet different.
Courtney is pretty dated on a girl...but a boy... Hm. I certainly wouldn't choose it, but I don't think he'd get teased at all if it were in the middle name spot. I say go for it.
