[Opinions] Re: Emily
in reply to a message by Lily
To me it matches Clara, Lillian, Anna, and Charlotte. A literary antique English (language) power name. Cute enough that unlike those others, it doesn't need to be sugared or salted (Lily, Hannah / Annabel, Claire, Charlie-UGH) to make it seem modern and youthful enough. Past its prime now obviously, but I think its appeal is basically similar to those names.
My mother suggested that I name my daughter it. I considered it for, oh, about 20 seconds... it's not very exciting to me, even though I know it is a good name and has cuteness and strength and femininity; and it has been too much of a big fad too long ago. I met a little girl named Emilia (whose name I would have thought was Amelia, if I hadn't happened to see it written down) and that seems better for the current decade ... classicky instead of antiquey.
