Not totally unusable, no, but it's similarity to "tigress" makes me think it would be better as a middle name.
I like Egret, and I've used it in some of my GP combos for boys, but I wouldn't actually want it for my name. I'm bothered by how much it looks like regret, the Eg- beginning isn't all that attractive, and it seems much more masculine than feminine to me (for whatever reason...nothing specific). It's not something I would hate my mother for, but I wouldn't be happy with it, either.
