I like Melody the best because it has a sing-songy feel to it :p

Melody - middle class parents. I think of the colour yellow. She'd be fiesty and free-spirited, stand up for what she believes in and support the underdog
Melanie - girly girl, takes no rubbish off men, likes fashion, tends to follow the crowd though, popular, gossips alot. Has older parents
Mallory - Cute little girl, bit of a tomboy. I picture the colour Blue. Parents wanted something a bit different but not unique and spelt incorrectly
I know 2 Melanie's. One is 26, very self-centred, think TOWIE. The second one is 12, tomboy, polite, reserved girl
Melanie is maybe slightly dated to the 80s really
