I am Scottish and the name Isla means river or water in Scotland. It has nothing at all to do with the island of Islay or the Spanish word for island. Most people with the name Isla are Scottish or of Scottish descent. Also Isla Grant the singer is not Irish as was posted on the board, she hails from the Scottish borders and speaks with a broad Scottish accent, (i go to see her shows) Her husband is Irish though.
