Ha, I thought that too.
Even more Subway than Carl Edwards in his #99 car.

I don't think it's dated, and I used to like it, but I've soured on it now. Perhaps I associate it too strongly with Jared jewelry stores and their aggravating "He went to Jared!!!" commercials these days.
It's one of those names I'd be neutral toward on someone else's kid, but would reject out of hand if my boyfriend suggested it for a son of ours.

Jared is a nice enough name... but... I'm probably not the best person to be commenting on it, because I have some really *bad* associations with the name.
I've always loved this name, this spelling only, please. I feel it's ruggedly handsome without being over-the-top ruggedly handsome. But it was popular, and when you combine all the spellings, more popular than it seems by looking at the statistics.
On its way to being dated, I think. I would not have considered using it due to popularity\some-day-being-dated issues.

I think it's ugly, both in sound and in spelling Also, my husband has a cousin named Jared who is as stupid as a man can get and still feed himself and tie his own shoes. Seriously, he is dumb enough to drown in a glass of water, and his mother treats him like a pet. I always thought the name suited him perfectly.
I've always liked Jared. I find it under-appreciated these days where I live. As a well-known Biblical name, it doesn't seem dated even though it's less popular than it used to be. As far as spelling goes, I would stick with Jared. Jarrod seems a bit more dated.
I've encountered people named Jarrod, Jared, etc., in newspapers and such, but I don't recall ever meeting one.
