I prefer it for a girl, but it's nice on a boy, it's definitely not too girly. I don't think it's as dated feeling on a boy as on a girl though. I've met several Taylors, I think 3 boys, and 5 girls, through school and camps when I was growing up.
A girl Taylor is pretty and feminine, she's into dance, and is very smart. She may have a bit of a baby face, but she's mature even in her teens.
A boy Taylor is a little quiet and a little silly. He's very social, but not the most popular guy around. He underestimates himself, but he still tends to achieve.
