[Opinions] Artemis?
I still really like Artemis for a girl. I love the Goddess and all the mythology surrounding it. A lot of people think it is unusable, but I think it is one of the most usable mythology names. So what does every one think?

I love it. When I first heard it, I thought it sounded too harsh and masculine, but after I learned more about mythology and became more accustomed to the name, it grew on me. I ended up naming one of my pets Artemis. I think it's usable for people as well.

I really like it. The amount of people I have come across that think it is a boys name is ridiculous though! I love Artemis for a girl as well as all the mythology surrounding the name. It is an name I would consider using.

I pretty much agree with you-- love the goddess and really like the name. I'd use it IRL as a middle name (it's one of my top middle name choices for a girl), but I probably wouldn't use it as a fn. I'd love to meet a little Artemis though. The problem is nicknames: Art/Artie sounds like an old man, Missy is too princessy and spoiled sounding. Misty is a stretch. Aris? Ara? Ari? Temis? Maybe, but will any of those come naturally to people wanting to shorten her name? Hmm....

I like it. I don't think I would use it on my own children, but I would like to see it on a friend's child or a character.

Artemis Fowl

I like it. I don't know if I would personally use it, but Artemis nn Artie for a girl is pretty appealing to me. I think it's usable, too.

I really like Artemis, though I prefer Artemisia. I flout the notion of usability in almost all scenarios, so Artemis is definitely usable for me; moreover, since I'm a classicist, I would be delighted to meet someone with the name! Missy could be a cute nickname.

I definitely think it's usable. It's beautiful, elegant, and I LOVE the sharp edges on it. It's a very cool mythology reference. It may not be common or usual, but it's usable.

I love the sound of it. I wouldn't use it myself because it is a little "out there" but I don't think it's unusable. The pronounciation is pretty intuituve and you could use a nickname if it's a bit too much.

Arteemis Fowl. I'm not familiar with the books, but that might be a strong association for some people, whatever that would be.
But, if people can use Afrodite (I saw it on Say Yes to the Dress) and Venus, why not Artemis. I like Missy for a nn better than Arti.

I think Artemis is perfectly usable. It's not that strange at all. Most people have heard of it and know the mythology behind it. I think it's a lovely choice.

I love it, and considered using it, but most people IRL seem to think it's a male name due to that book.

I know a couple who named their dd Artemis Sophia, nn Artie. She'd be about 15 years old by now. It's unusable until someone uses it. :-DI agree that the mythology connection is definitely a plus. Also, it has a spunky almost modern quality to it. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.

It's all right, but I prefer Artemisia.
