I've never heard of it pronounced "AD-i-la"
I associate Adela more with Adele than Adelaide so Adele ("a-DELL") ---> Adela ("a-DELL-a") makes perfect sense to me.
Sorry I know that probably didn't help at all in regard to what the difference is, lol
