[Opinions] Re: Liz, as a nickname for Elizabeth and a survey
in reply to a message by Lily
Liz is kind of cute, actually. The only Liz I know is probably close to seventy. I went to school with an Elizabeth who just went by the full name, and a Beth who I think was just called Beth ann and not Elizabeth though I don't know for sure. I had a roommate named Beth also, it was definitely just Beth. I know a Bethany who goes by Beth also, plus my best friend from Oklahoma is Bethany and goes by that. Also I know a couple of Bettys, mostly over fifty, but I have no idea if they are just Betty or Elizabeth. I do know a Betty Jean, who is around 70, and Betty Jean is her full name and what she's called.I don't know anybody who uses Lisa or Ella or Lily as a nn for Elizabeth. Those have been considered full names in their own right for so long. If I heard somebody say today they were going to name their daughter Elizabeth and call her Lisa, I would wonder if they weren't just hedging their bets with the "non classical" Lisa, like they really wanted to use Lisa but they were not comfortable usign it as a full name because they are more concerned with name popularity and stylishness than they let on; Lisa is sort of dated, but Elizabeth never has been.I only really like Liz, as a matter of fact. Liza is kind of cute too but I never knew anybody actually called it. Buffy is the worst, it sounds like a poodle.
