I don't think it's really ugly. Something about it annoys me a little, I'm not sure what. The "Court" sound is a just a little annoying. I never would have used it. I was aware as far back as 1974 that it was becoming trendy, because my sister used it as a middle name that year, and I started babysitting a little girl named Courtney who was born that year. So I've always thought about it, "Um, no." I far prefer the Courtney spelling to any other.
