Year 1: Birth. Uzma and Nikolaj welcome twins into their family, a son and a daughter. The son has straight blonde hair like his father and brown eyes like his mother. Their daughter has curly blonde hair and brown eyes. They name them Christopher Laurent and Edina Vivienne.
Year 2: Birth. Just over a year after Christopher and Edina, the family have another new arrival. The third child is a boy, with curly red hair and brown eyes. They name him Leonard August.
Year 3: Birth. Another birth! Nikolaj and Uzma are rather alarmed by the thought of four under-fives in their home. This is a girl, with curly red hair and blue eyes. They name her Melisande Cordelia.
Year 4: Family event: vacation. The family decide to go on holiday this year, to Canada, where Nikolaj has family.
Year 5: Family event: Someone dies. In year 5, Nikolaj's brother and his wife are killed in a tragic accident, and Nikolaj and Uzma become legal guardians of their two young children. The eldest is a five year old girl with curly brown hair and hazel eyes, named Helena Eugenie and the younger is a three year old girl with curly black hair and green eyes, named Genevieve Philomena.
Year 6: Adoption. After looking after their neices for a year, Uzma and Nikolaj decide that they'd like to adopt a less fortunate child. They adopt South Korean twins, fraternal twin boys with straight black hair and brown eyes, of ten years of age. Jin-Seong and Hyeon-Yun are friendly and already speak a little English, and Nikolaj is keen on learning a few Korean words, although it is difficult.
Year 7: Adoption. Jin-Seong and Hyeon-Yun have settled in well, with Hyeon-Yun becoming good friends with Christopher whilst Jin-Seong has developed an interest in cookery which has allowed him to bond well with his adopted mother. Uzma and Nikolaj cautiously decide to adopt once more. This time they adopt a child from Kazakhstan, and whilst they initially only wish to adopt one child, they end up meeting and getting along well with a set of triplets in an orphanage in Almaty. The triplets are all identical girls, with hazel-green eyes and curly dark brown hair and are six years old. They decide to give Alia, Saya and Zulfia new middle names and enlist the help of their other children in choosing them - Francesca, Hermione and Alexandra.
Year 8: Adoption. After two successful adoptions, and seeing not only their Korean but also their Kazakh adopted sons and daughters thrive and get along well with their own children and other children at school, even despite Saya's language problems and Zulfia's shyness, Nikolaj suggests adopting once more. Uzma is reluctant at first, but eventually agrees. This time they adopt from India, triplets again. Uzma has family from India on her mother's side and so is keen that they should adopt from there, and she also speaks a little Hindi. The triplets are all identical girls, with straight black hair and hazel eyes. Much like Alia, Saya and Zulfia, these girls, who are five years old, don't have middle names in the English sense, and so Uzma and Nikolaj decide to give them new middle names too - they become Sitara Victorine, Priya Isabelle and Neelam Isadora.
Year 9: Travel. Nikolaj and Uzma decide to go on another family holiday. Unfortunately, due to the size of their growing family and money restrictions, they don't feel that they can go far. They end up travelling to Scotland, where they spend a relaxing week and a half in the countryside. Hyeon-Yun, who is cramming for tests, appreciates the quiet and calm whilst the other children, Leonard, Jin-Seong and Alia in particular, enjoy exploring the countryside with their father. Priya is a little surprised by the cold and damp, but over the course of the week becomes better friends with her adoptive sisters. And Nikolaj and Uzma just appreciate the time away from work, which they can spend with their kids.
Year 10: Birth. Much to their surprise, Uzma falls pregnant again and gives birth to a son. Their newest child has brown curly hair and blue eyes, and they name him Isaac Damian. His birth causes quite a stir. The triplets, Alia, Saya and Zulfia, are particularly excited about a new baby brother, but Neelam goes through a brief angsty patch, worried that her parents will care more about Isaac.
Year 11: Pet. The family decide to get a rabbit, much to the delight of the children. They adopt a baby Flemmish giant who desperately needs a new home, and name him Max, Helena's choice of name. Max is a hit, although Uzma is both amused and horrified when she finds out how big he's going to get.
Year 12: Move. With one very big bunny and fifteen growing kids, the house isn't big enough any more. The triplets are always going to have to share their rooms, but the twins are growing up rapidly and need their own space. The family move out of the city and into a large house in a nice semi-rural commuter town.
Year 13: Travel. Edina goes on a school trip to Norway. Everyone else is jealous.
Year 14: Birth. Yes, again! The couple are a little horrified. Uzma gives birth to a son, Tobias Edmund. Meanwhile, Jin and Hyeon are thinking about universities. There's a lot of excitement and general horror when Nikolaj wonders if he'll have to put sixteen kids through further education, but as a teacher he's very supportive of his adopted sons' interest in higher learning. In the end, Hyeon, the more academic, ends up studying maths at Cambridge, whilst Jin studies French at Bristol, an equally impressive feat.
Year 15: Job. Nikolaj decides to work two jobs to earn more money, teaching both at school and a night school for adults. He also decides to do the occasional private tutoring.
Year 16: Job. New job. Uzma gets headhunted for a prestigeous restaurant and, of course, agrees. This means longer hours, but it's also more interesting and brings in a lot more money.
Year 17: Pet. Dog. The family get a St. Bernard puppy from a friend. Although initially relucant, especially given Max, their friend assures them that if trained right, there will be no problem. They name him Tom. Christopher starts thinking about uni. Edina begins a course in the local polytechnic in IT management.
Year 18: Job. Nikolaj is laid off. He finds it devestating, but Uzma points out that they're still earning plenty from her job and he can still teach at the night school and tutor. Christopher goes to uni to study psychology. Jin and Hyeon graduate, both with an acceptable 2.1. Nikolaj and Uzma are so proud.
Year 19: Random. Car-crash. Edina is in a car-crash when her boyfriend's car is struck by another. Fortunately she only suffers minor injuries but also suffers a broken collar-bone. Her boyfriend suffers worse injuries but fortunately recovers.
Year 20: Adoption. Uzma is getting the blues watching all of her children grow up and move out. Jin and Hyeon are now both working in the city, although they pop down to visit when they can, which is most weekends. Nikolaj suggests adopting again. This time they adopt from China. Triplets once more, as fate would have it, and once more, all girls, but this time fraternal. Nine year old Qiu-Ling has wavy black hair and brown eyes, whilst her sisters Li-Xue and Shu-Lin have straight black hair and hazel-brown eyes. None of the sisters speak much English, but now Nikolaj and Uzma are old-hats at adoption. The sisters don't initially settle in great, but Shu-Lin the tomboy becomes friends with Isaac, despite their language barrier.
Year 21: Family event. The family adopt a stray, a semi-feral cat who befriends them and ends up living with them. Uzma, always an animal-lover, manages to coax the cat into a kitty carrier and gets him neutered and vaccinated, and even though he has a nasty habit of losing his collars, he becomes less of an alley cat and more of a family cat. They name him Freddy and he is often seen chasing Tom around the place. The difficult Li-Xue who has yet to warm to the family loves him. In the winter of that year, Hyeon gets married, to a curly red-haired, hazel-eyed stage actress called Aoife Louisa.
Year 22: Vacation. Nikolaj and Uzma leave the kids with her sister and go on holiday. They visit Croatia for a week, having time to themselves for the first time in years.
Year 23: Birth. Hyeon and Aoife welcome their first child, and Nikolaj and Uzma their first grandchild. Vincent Eun has curly black hair and brown eyes.
Year 24: Family event. Pet. Nikolaj buys Shu-Lin a turtle, Salvadore, for her birthday. Helena gets married to Samuel Wolfgang, a funeral director with straight brown hair and blue eyes.
Year 25: Birth. Hyeon and Aoife have a daughter, Xanthe Myeong, who has wavy black hair and hazel eyes.
