[Opinions] Raven
Do you like Raven for a girl? It was my favorite name when I was younger. I wanted twins named Raven and Robin :P
I think Raven has a really nice sound. Do you think it would fit a blonde haired, blue eyed girl? If I have a child with my current boyfriend our child would probably have blonde or red hair and green or blue eyes. I actually like the idea of a blonde Raven, just wondering :P
Oh and does it surprise anyone else that it isn't more common? I've met quite a few and thought it would have made the top 100 at least once. There was also the actress Raven Symone on The Cosby Show and some other show, thought she made it more popular.

I love Raven :)
I also like Ravenna, Ravana/Revana (ray-VAH-na) as a full name or as a diminutive of Raven, and Ravenna nn Raven.
I helped teach a class once with a blond Raven in it. I have to say I didn't really like it; she has a younger sister named Jade and while I love the sibset of Raven and Jade together, I picture those names on skinny-ish dark-haired girls, and these sisters were sort of chubby and blonde. Didn't really fit my picture of them.
I think a blond Ravenna would work better than a blond Raven.
I also like Robin. Do you like Robin on a boy or a girl? I like it on both (but prefer it on a boy because of Robin Hood). I think a blond or redhead Robin would work well.

That's so Raven!
... and I don't like it. It's too contrived, like the name a goth girl would give herself.

It's grown on me recently. I like it, but would probably not use it. I like Ravenna better.
Yeah, I like it okay. It's sort of goth, but it has its charm.
I think it would look weird on a blonde, though.

I only like Raven as a GP. I can't really see it as someone's real name.
I much rather use Ravenna!
Sounds more historical anyways.

I know a Ravenna!
I do actually like Raven, but I wouldn't use it myself. It's just a GP for me. I've only met one Raven - actually it was Rayven - and that was just recently so I've never thought of it as common. When I think of Raven I definitely think of dark, not necessarily a black woman but at least a dark haired person, probably because it is a black bird, Raven Symone, and the Rayven I met had dark hair.
I don't really like it, but once I met a male Raven who was about 3 or 4, who had blond hair.
A Raven lives in my building.
She's quite cute, actually - she's about 7. And she's blonde and blue-eyed. :-P
Beyond that, I don't like it. It's somewhat dated to me, plus my name has often been confused with Raven (to my great annoyance.)

I'll go along with that...
Except to add that as somebody else pointed out, it's a name that goth wannabe types like to give themselves.
It's not as strongly a "black" name as Ebony though. In the US, a white girl named Ebony would really stick out. I'm told it's different in Australia and England.
Anyway, Ebony is not longer at all popular. It had its day in the eighties then it sank.

There was a white cashier named Raven at my workplace for a while. It got my attention because it was unusual, but I really liked it and thought it worked quite well.
Hmmm the only Ebony I knew was black but to me it was always a name that could work on anyone. But I thought the same about Raven. Maybe because the first one I met had red hair. But you are right about goth wannabes using it as their names. The only one that seems more common is Lilith. Oh and I heard they like to use Seraphina or Seraphine as well.

Raven was one of the names on my ex's list that I would have considered using, but I don't like it or him anymore.
Raven Illuminata something was my combo, I liked the balance of light and dark.
I can't check popularity without risking losing this page but I think I remember having the same thought when I was more serious about using it.
Hair color shouldn't matter; its like only allowing girls named Scarlett to be redheads.

Wow Raven Illuminata! I agree with you, hair color shouldn't matter. Unfortunately most people seem to disagree with that.
I liked it, too, when I was younger. I've met a few Ravens, two of whom were male.
Now? Not so much. It's very juvenile. It's one of those goth-y names people like when they're 12. Twins Raven and Robin would be way too much.
I can appreciate the sound and the Poe connection (movie notwithstanding) but I could never bring myself to use it. Even in a story. It's just so middle school.
Also, it's one of those names emo kids seem to really like. "My name isn't Megan, it's Raven now." Just my experience with it, of course.

I don't know if it's mean to call them that.... but they are emos so why not? I call hispters a hispter when I see 'em!
I was going to mention Lilith, too. Raven and Lilith are hand-in-hand to me. They're dark but feminine. I always imagine some hack wannabe writer creating a vampire story with either sexy vampire Lilith and/or sexy vampire Raven running around doing sexy vampire things. Makes me barf. lol

Hahaha I'm so sick of vampires. I don't like Twilight and lately they've been showing a lot of vampire stuff on TV, True Blood and Vampire Diaries. Ugh not a fan. Reminds me of my friend who was a huge fan of Buffy when we were little and she'd leave the window open every night so that a vampire could come and take her with him :P
Oh, me, too. Huge Buffy nerd. I own all the seasons. And of Angel, too, although I'm less enthusiastic about that show.
I used to make my mom watch it (I came home from school and it was showing on FX--I was only allowed to watch 1 hr of tv a day so that's what i'd choose)! She still says she hates the show but I swear she got into it. And she adored Spike. She has a thing for bad boys, though. She liked Jess with Rory and Weevil with Veronica. I make my mom watch a lot of my things, I'm realizing in hindsight. Ah, I blame it on the fact we had one tv and it was in the living room, which doubled as her bedroom.
The only time I didn't like Spike is when they made him too devoted to Buffy. I liked him with spine. I really like him and Dru together because they were such a mess.
Oh, lordy. Stopping now before this becomes a 20-page paper about my thoughts on Buffy!! lol
