As I expected my thread below showed that most people pronounce Lila LY-la. I much prefer the LEE-la pronunciation. Lila looks prettier but Leela wouldn't cause pronunciation troubles. So how would you spell LEE-la? Lila because it looks prettier or Leela because it would make things easier? I guess the Sanskrit pronunciation is LEE-la as Leela is given as an alternate spelling of the Sanskrit Lila.
Another question: How do you pronounce Elaine? More like eh-LAYN or ee-LAYN?

I think Leela looks better actually, I like the balance of it. Lila looks too up and down to me. I would mostly pick it for the intuitive pronunciation.
If I'm saying Elaine on it's own I say eh-LAYN, but my Aunt is named that and she's always Aunt ee-LAYN, so I'm not sure what's going on there with my pronunciation skills.

I'd probably just go with Lila. It does look nicer and it's not like the spelling is COUNTER intuitive. She may have to correct people throughout her life but it usually only takes one time. And I've learned to just let those sort of things go when it comes to something trivial and temporary (i.e. them calling your name at starbucks vs. rollcall in class)

I pronounce Lila LEE-la, but I get what you mean - practically everyone says LY-la. I think if there was an H on the end, I would say LY-la. I prefer Lyla or Layla to Leela/Lila, but they are all very nice names.
I agree, Lila looks WAY nicer than Leela.
If someone said to me that their name was LEE-la, I would spell it Leela, not Lila. But is someone said LY-la, I would spell it Lyla. This is a tricky situation...
