[Facts] meaning
This is for genealogical research. I'm pretty sure that this is a given name, Russian/Jewish name from the mid-1800s. Does anyone know how common it was or what it means, or really have any insight into the name. Also if you have any suggestions of places I could look for further research, that would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Our lists here are pretty accurate, and Yasha is given as a Russian diminutive of Yakov, which is their spelling of the name we know as Jacob. Not what I'd call female, but the -a ending is usual for male diminutives in Russian.

I can't help with the meaning beyond what the previous poster said, but wanted to point out that if this is a Russian name, it would originally have been written in the Cyrillic alphabet, and there are a number of ways to transcribe it into our Roman alphabet that would be equally valid: Yascha, Yasha, Yacha. It might help if you expand your search to other possible spellings.
