I'm not sure why, but Laura has always been very bland to me. Let me state this again, I don't know WHY, because I love the names Anne and Jane, which several people find to be quite plain, too.
My freshman year of college I was in a science class, it was all girls, about 25 of us, and 3 of us (myself included) were not named: Laura/Lauren/Laurie or Katie/Kate, and actually the first set out numbered the second. So I think I've just heard it far too much for it to really stick out to me.
