Help[Opinions] Opinions on Phyllis?
I was just wondering what you guys thought of Phyllis. Personally, I don't really like it, but I've been seeing it around in movies and online (not on any real people)and it was really popular in like late 1920-1930s but hasn't been in the top 1000 in decades so I am just curious...

It's old, dated and not particularly attractive... while at the same time not as bad as Edith and Ethel and Bertha and such. I much prefer Philippa though. Phyllis just doesn't do it to me. My first thought when I hear it is my great aunt who's 104. I've only ever known 1 under 40 and that was 15 yrs. ago... She's prob'ly in her 50s or close to it now. Looking at its roots, Phyllis really has NO appeal for me, so that would sway me even further away from it rather than to it. Any woman who'd kill herself over a man seems like a pathetic model to have as a namesake.

I think it's pretty in theory, like Gladys. But it's still really strongly wedded to a not very glamourous image, which works against it. One of my favourite neo-pagan authors is named Phyllis, so that gives it a definite boost for me.
One of my classmates from university loved the name Phyllis and she was the epitome of edgy-cool so that also gave it some cool points.
I like Phyllida too.

I don't think this one's ready to be revived yet. Give it 15-20 years. By then Gladys and Doris and the names of that era will be fresh again.

I know a Phyllis in her 80s and another who would have been in her 60s now.
I quite like it, though I prefer Phyllida. Phyllis can sound like the Afrikaans word for rubbish or garbage, but I don't think that's my problem - more likely the hissy -s ending. I don't enjoy Denise, Gladys or Janice either.

I just can't make myself like it. I have tried to like it... I just can't bring myself to do it.

I think it's kind of cool and understated. It's refreshing to hear. I would like to see a couple of young Phyllis'.

I dont like Phyllis it is just old lady and not in the sweet way. I have met a few I work with alot of elderly but none that I like. It was fairly popular in the 50-60's so while its been awhile it hasnt been that long. Its from my mothers generation not just my grandmothers.

I think Phyllis is great, but I also really like Gladys, Lois, and other old-lady-names-that-end-in-S, so that's not surprising.
Phyllis makes me picture green reeds in water for some reason, but I don't think it will make a significant comeback anytime soon. Not when most people picture something closer to Phyllis Diller when they hear the name.
Eta: My boyfriend read over my shoulder and said "Phyllis? Syphilis." So that's another strike against it. =(
