[Opinions] Re: Thoughts on Oona?
in reply to a message by PantheraVirgo
I adore Oonagh and love Oona. I'm not sold on Una.
Combos? You'd think I'd have a stock combo for Oona but nothing is springing to mind. How about:
Oona Magdalen
Oona Parthenope
Oona Margaret / Mairead / Marjorie
Oona Helen
Oona Bridget
Oona Jocelin / Jocelyn
Oona Geraldine (too Chaplinesque?)
Oona Mirabel
Oona Eugenie
Oona Lenore
Oona Gladys
Oona Bryony
Oona Germaine
Oona Winifred
Oona Lilias
Oona Murron
Oona Rachel
Oona Hedwig
Oona Franziska
Oona Liesl
Oona Dagmar
Oona Frideswide
Oona Lovisa
Oona Hyacinth
Oona Myrtle
Oona Jonquil
Oona Beryl
Oona Beatrice
Oona Claudine
Oona Rosamund
Oona Nigella
Oona Benedicte
Oona Bernadette
Oona Mildred
Oona Calanthe
Oona Sieglinde / Segolene
Oona Pascale
Oona Mathilde
She screams for an off-the-beaten-track mn.
I think I like the Germanic mns because it's gets away from the Latinate "una" = "one" thing. I dearly wanted to list Oona Consuelo since Orla Consuelo is a stock combo for me. But all my brain processed was "1 Consuelo." :-/

I had been drifting towards Celtic MNs for Oona, partly because it's an Irish name itself and partly because it avoids that "one" thing (which is also part of why I don't like the spelling Una). Things like Oona Ceridwen, Oona Myfanwy, and Oona Meraud had come to mind. I do like some of the Germanic ones, but they seem to take Oona to a harsher level. Some of the Greek ones you have make me smile, though... especially Oona Calanthe. That looks lovely. :) I also like Oona Bryony, Oona Mairead, and, oddly, Oona Hyacinth. I usually don't like Hyacinth at all.
