He's the only association I have with that name, and I'm sure a lot of other people do too. Not that it's a reason you should avoid the name.
I don't see it as overly-hippy, nor is it silly. I think it's more masculine than feminine, but I don't dislike it on a girl. I see it as more of a "I want to name my kid a nature name and this is one of the few people don't think is weird" kind of name. Not particularly creative, a bit cliché.
