[Opinions] Eugenia
I think Eugenia is elegant and lovely. I also love Eugénie, but I like Eugenia more. I have heard some negative press about Eugenia on this board, and I hoping to get more opinion. It's so classy, and not used often. I have only known one who went by Jenny.
Eugenia Catherine is very pleasing to me.

I love it! In fact my great-grandmother's name was Catherine Eugenia. My grandmother was Patricia Eugenia.
I adore Eugenia! So elegant and feisty at the same time.
The only reason I have it in a combo on my list is for someone who wishes to honour his grandmother... Aside from that, while the meaning in and of itself is fine, the first thing it brings to mind for me is eugenics, which is a very offensive concept for those whose family, friends and/or people group may have been affected by that mindset and the groups who were promoting it. I actually know someone who was sterylized without consent on the grounds that she was an orphan/foster child and there were many other people who were not deemed "fit" to reproduce in the eyes of the elite who had the power to do something about it and wound up forcefully sterylized if they lived in North America (ethnic minorities or people with traits that someone in power arbitrarily viewed as "defective") and if they lived in Germany and the Nazis got to them, well... that was taken to another extreme... It prob'ly won't stir up that image in the minds of those who are not aware of the eugenics movement, but for those who are, it could bring that to mind... why I wouldn't use it on my own child.
I really, really want to like it, but ever since I found out it has the exact same Greek roots as the word "eugenics", I haven't been able to get that association out of my head. Which kind of sucks.
That eugenics association really doesn't deter me. The practice of eugenics would be offensive, but the Greek roots themselves aren't negative to me, and the sound is very pretty.
I love Eugenia. I used to love it even more, enough to consider using it, but I still have an appreciation for it. I can see it being classy, but to me it's mostly quite down-to-earth. Like Eugenia would be a fun grandmother. But yeah, when she was younger I think classy is actually a good description. My favorite combos with it are Eugenia Bonnie and Eugenia Deirbhile.

I adore Eugenia. She's so regal and strong. Obviously feminized male names are a special yen of mine and Eugenia is right up there with the best of them. Plus, I love that soft "jeen" sound in the middle. I met a young woman once named Eugenia. She went by Genia. Nn Jeanie would be sweet too. :-)
Eugenia Catherine is wonderful. It reminds me of the U.S. Vice-President's mother's name: Catherine Eugenia. He was telling the story of his life at the 2008 Democratic Convention. When he spoke of his mother he used her full name, emphasizing the Eugenia part as if to say, "Now here's a woman to be looked up to." It was a darling moment.
May I try a few combinations?
Eugenia Caroline / Charlotte / Carole
Eugenia Mary
Eugenia Sophie
Eugenia Laurel
Eugenia Valerie
Eugenia Coral
Eugenia Olwen
Eugenia Belen ("bel-EN")
Eugenia Rachel
Eugenia Murron
Eugenia Clare
Eugenia Helen
Eugenia Margaret / Margot
Eugenia Frances

Pop the cork, Coral. You've crossed a milestone. Someone noticed you! Yay! :-D
Thanks!
Thanks!
I like Eugenia quite a lot. I'd use it and the nickname Jeanie (even though Jennie is more intuitive), after a friend I had when I was little, named Jeanie. It usually falls in the middle name spot for me.
Daphne Eugenia, Rose Eugenia, Rose Eugenia Mary, Rosalind Eugenia, Alice Eugenia, Scarlett Eugenia, Sibyl Eugenia, Maud Eugenia, Olive Eugenia, Hazel Eugenia, Frances Eugenia, Pearl Eugenia, May Eugenia, Iris Eugenia, Anne Eugenia, Agnes Eugenia, Catherina Eugenia, Amice Eugenia, Flavia Eugenia, Nina Eugenia, Ceres Eugenia.
These are the only first name Eugenia combos I have:
Eugenia Colette
Eugenia Berenice

I think Eugenia is lovely, actually. I've hated it until recently (strange that I got into both Kylie and Eugenia/Euphemia in the same week, huh?). I almost prefer the Russian version, since I speak Russian and it's less dated to my ears (although as far as I know, it's dated in Russia as well). That's Evgeniya (yiv-GYE-nee-ya). Eugenia has a very sweet and humble sound to it; I'd expect a Eugenia to be friendly and kind and quiet.
Eugenia Catherine is very nice. It doesn't make me swoon, but it's nice.
EDIT: Combos:
Eugenia Florence
Eugenia Maria
Eugenia Helen
Eugenia Violet
Eugenia Stella
Eugenia Gwyneth
Eugenia Victoria (couldn't help it! :) I love GWTW)
Eugenia Seren
Eugenia Delphine
Eugenia Isis
Eugenia Willow
Eugenia Diana
Eugenia Molly
Eugenia Sylvie
Eugenia Charlotte
Eugenia Noelle
Eugenia Kristen
Eugenia Beth
Eugenia Simone
Eugenia Lorraine
Eugenia Nell
Eugenia Grace
Eugenia Penelope
Eugenia Rosabel
Eugenia Farrah
Eugenia Holly
Eugenia Hazel
Eugenia Vivian
Eugenia Constance
Eugenia Nora
Any you like?

Yes, yes. The Russian form is heavenly. I love both the male and female forms in Russian. You're making me think of taking Russian up again.
