I like both, but I'd most likely go with Carmen. Carmel would be more likely to be mispronounced. It's also the name of a nearby town. That's not necessarily a bad thing. The town is lovely, but it would just seem a bit odd for me to have a child with the name of a nearby place that happens to be home to many wealthy people. It might seem like I was trying too hard to be fancy or something.If you're looking for something less expected, go with Carmel, but if you want something that will very rarely be mispronounced, I recommend Carmen.
