[Opinions] Philip?
So I've recently decided that I kind of like Philip. I think it ages well, it can be kind of cute on a boy but also I can see it on some one older. The only problem is that I really dislike the nn Phil. Could that be avoided? So what are your opinions on Philip? Any combos?

Aw, I love Philip! Like you, I don't like Phil at all. My dislike has only intensified since the advent of "Dr. Phil." Some days, I'm optimistic and I think Phil can be avoided if the parents are vigilant. Other days, I'm not so sure, and it keeps Philip from ever having much of a chance with me. I'd love to see a braver people use it, though. :)

I love the name Philip too!! I also love Philippe, and I'm warming up to the nn Philly. I think a nn can be avoided at home, but not at school, not at work, and not on any sports teams (if he plays sports). I had never really liked the name because it made me think of this whiny little boy I knew, but now it makes me think of Phil Kessel, who is such a cutie. Not to mention a reaaaaaally good hockey player.

I like Philip. It's my grandfather's name, so I'm partial to it because of that. It's a very warm, kind name, with an outdoorsiness to it. Phil could be avoided same as any other nickname. Don't call them that, and if people do, correct them. In my experience people will call your child whatever you introduce them as, and if you introduce them with a full name they might ask if you call them a nickname.I already have combos Philip Augustin, Philip Cassander, Philip Tavish, and Philip Trevelyan, but not a huge fan of any of those anymore, except Philip Cassander is pretty awesome. I'd take it in a different direction, like Philip Teal (perfect!), Philip Everett, or Philip Glen.

Could always give him the nn Lip... jk... I think Philip is ok... much preferable to some of the current trendy stuff... could always use it as a mn (or have kid go by his mn)if you're afraid of the nn Phil being used... Aside from that, you could just insist on Philip from the start and see how that goes... You decide which side of Philip these go on...Philip Zachary

Where I live, the default nn for most Philips is Flip.
