Help[Opinions] Fox and Hazel
The article of naming trends of 2012 got me thinking about the name Fox for a boy. It's actually been a love of mine for some time but I've only ever really considered it as a MN (Kieran Fox). I'm really liking the idea of it as a FN now though and think it sounds particularly nice with my SO's surname. So is Fox as a FN totally ridiculous or doable?
Also, I was thinking yesterday that Hazel could actually fit a boy pretty well, with nn Haze. WDYT??

I like it. I usually think of it as a GP or a mn (or sometimes a nickname). I like it; but I do think it's a bit short. It's like Max; it isn't a nickname, but it's so short that it feels like one. I'd give him a long middle name he can use it he wants to later on.
I like Hazel on a girl, but I think it might be cool on a boy. I definitely like Haze.

I think it works better as a middle name. People used to call a good-looking guy a "fox" back in the 80's, so I can't take it seriously as a first name.
Hazel could work for a boy, sure. The rabbit Hazel was male in "Watership Down." And Haze is a pretty cool nickname.

Fox & Hazel together are the bomb. Super tweedy hunting-set chic! I love Hazel for a girl so much, I don't know how I feel about it on a boy. Actually you're right, it could work, but on a boy it seems more nature-hippy than when it's ona girl. Totally changes the feel of it, that's rather neat.
I like Fox a heckuva lot, but I gotta say, and I only notice this because I've been watching my way through the entire X-Files seasons on DVD, whenever someone says "Fox" I think they are about to say "F*ck". Maybe it's just my filthy mind, but I do a double take EVERY time!

Even though I like foxes as animals, I find Fox borderline inappropriate as a name. I can't shake it's usage as a measure of attractiveness...and sexy attractiveness at that. It's like any Fox had better be good-looking or his/her name becomes a joke. I think the name is also tainted by the Fox Network, but I'm sure my social and political views are coloring my opinion on that.
I hate Haze with a special sort of hatred. It reminds me very strongly of polluted skies and hazing rituals, so it sounds both dirty and mean. The sound of it is the thing that keeps me from liking Hazel at all. Putting that aside, I think Hazel on a boy is a bad, bad thing. It's so well-established for girls, and it's only going to become more popular for daughters. I never think it's a good idea to give a child a name that's either a well-known or an up-and-coming name for the opposite sex. Hazel is both for girls.

I think Fox would be fine as a first name, but I don't like it specifically. I do like Hazel on a boy, though, but not Haze.

Fox is awesome but then I've been an X-files fan since I was ten. It's kind of sad (in my opinion anyway) that most people don't remember the X-files any more and won't associate Fox with Fox Mulder, because he's the reason why Fox has been on my GP list for a very long time.
I don't expect Fox to be an easy name to live with but most non-conformist names aren't. I think it's cool and doable if you are willing to stand up to some people who will think it's ridiculous.

People still remember! Just look at my username! Well, okay, I don't *remember*, exactly (I was born in '96) but with all the campaigns that us fans have been doing recently - trying to get a third movie, raising money for Japan, etc. - there are definitely a LOT of people who remember =]
Maybe it just matters who you ask, how old they are, if they were fans in the first place, etc.

I don't like either. Hazel is lovely on a girl, but on a boy it just makes me think of the rabbit in Watership Down.
Fox seems a bit silly to me, it's still just an animal to me and I can't see it as a name.

Fox as a fn is ridiculous. I think Hazel may have been used on boys at one time, but I'd prefer it on a girl... still has the middle-aged maid image for me... though meeting some more young ones would be nice.

I've always found the sound of Hazel masculine. I think Fox and Hazel would make an awesome sibset. I like Fox as a first name. I've met men with it as a first name. Maybe that's why I think it's doable as a first name.

I can't get past the TV company when I see Fox, though as a ln it would make a rational mn for family reasons.
And I can't get past the heroic male rabbit in Watership Down when I see Hazel for a boy. That, and the classic Old Witch.

Fox is cool too. Not something I'd use but something I would not mind seeing. I might wonder briefly if the parents were X-Files fans.

I think Fox could work as a FN. It's maybe better as a MN, but it's not completely horrible or anything.
Hazel could work on paper (or in a story, spelled like Hazle/Hazell/Hayzl or something) but it is just too difficult to steal from the girl's pool in real life. Stick with Hayes.
