I don't like Shirley at all. I find it dated and I have a lot of bad associations with it unfortunately.
I know one Shirley in real life. She's about 50 and is pretty rough - she comes in the shop where I work to buy scratchcards and cigarettes all the time. Her sister is called Queenie.
Also there is a not-so-nice area in the town where I live called Shirley.
And Shirley is a character in Eastenders who isn't really the best association either.
