Derek & Meredith are both surgerons at Seattle-Grace Mercy West Hospital in Seattle, Washington. They first met at a bar where Meredith had no idea that Derek was a surgeron at the same hospital, where she would start her residency. Meredith also didn't know that Derek was married. Derek has since divorced his exwife Addison. Meredith & Derek have been married now for 2 years & are in the processing of adopting Zola. Zola is their daughter in the their heart, but not theirs yet. Meredith & Derek are hoping Zola will be theirs very soon.
