Heading for Minnsota, Oskar and Ingrid are only two of over a million Swedes who left their country for the US in the late 1800s/early 1900s. Oskar, son to a poor farm labourer with nine children, wants to own his own land and be able to provide for his family in a way his father never could. His uncle Nils has already made it in the US and the letters Oskar has received from him has only convinced him further that emigrating to the US is the right decision.
