It's a sweet name, but not really my style.
I've met people named Holly who weren't born around Christmas time, so I don't think it's weird to name someone born in a month other than December or in a completely different season Holly. It's a nature name, not just a "Christmas" name.
I definitely prefer Holly to Hollie. Holly looks more substantial.
Holly isn't too common where I live, but if I lived in the UK, I wouldn't use it because it's popular there.
