Earlier this year, Luke was laid off. We were both very sad, but we've decided to become missionaries in Japan. It's been a great experience so far, and I even found a job as a surgeon like I was in the U.S.

We decided to start a family. Well, kind of, at least. We adopted a parrot into our family. We call it Polly. Yes, very original. I know. :)

This year I transferred departments in my job. Luke loves Polly and is teaching her all kinds of things to say. She's the life of our family!

We took a trip to Africa this year! It was a great experience; neither of us have ever been there before. We hope to do more traveling in the future!

We took another vacation! This time to England. It was just as great as the trip last year!

We welcomed another member into our family. A chinchilla! This time I got to name it. I call her Samantha Rosalind Grace. Luke calls it Sam Wise.

Year 7
Some sad things happened this year. First of all I had a miscarriage. Luke and I have been wanting kids for years now, but we've been unlucky. Another death also occured. My sister Maria, only 25, died in a horrible car accident leaving her husband in charge of their baby twin daughters, Maggie and Theresa.

Luke decided to go back to school this year. He dropped out after getting his first part in a movie. Now he's majoring in physics.

We got some more company for Polly and Sam Wise (I can't believe I'm calling it that!) Luke insisted on naming our new hamster Pippin. So Pippin it is.

We took a two month vacation to the U.S. Since we still don't have kids, but we're planning to someday, we want to travel before its too late.

Another death. This time it was our nephew. Luke's brother's son, Tommy, has had cancer for a couple years now, and after battling it bravely, passed away. He was only eleven years old and an only child. We've been devastated that we can't have children, but I cannot even imagine having my only child die so young.

Year 12
We've finally decided to turn to adoption. We brought Maria Nuru, a girl whose first birthday was just yesterday, home from Ethiopia this year. It was one of the places we visited when we went to Africa. Maria is after my deceased sister whose thirtieth birthday would've been the same day as Little Maria. Nuru was her birth name. She has chocolate brown skin and eyes and midnight black hair. Maria is an adorable chubby little girl. She can't quite walk yet, but is trying very hard. She loves the animals here. She's always very happy. We love her to pieces.

Year 13
Things have been rocky ever since the adoption. We desperately tried to work things out, but they only got worse as Maria got older. As much as we had wanted children, I guess we're not fit to be parents together. We figured it'd be best for Maria. he and I just signed the divorce papers an hour ago. He's moving out next week. He'll take Sam Wise and Polly, but Maria loves Pippin too much to let him go. He's agreed Pippin will stay here with me and Maria. I really wish Maria could have the chance to have a normal family. But with him as her father, that's not happening.

For her birthday I gave Maria a salamander. She named loves it. It's called Squirmy. Maria's doing wonderful. She's a social butterfly. She's friends with her whole preschool class. She's showing great academic promises. She has a love for animals. The only thing she doesn't have that she wants is a dad. She stays with him for a weekend once a month. She'd also love a brother. I don't think that dream will ever come true. I wish it could, but it can't. I'd love so much to give her a brother, but I don't have enough money to adopt, and, well, yeah... I wish we'd found away out of that mess. The one that led to a divorce. But we didn't. I don't plan on re-marrying. Neither does he. In a way, I wish I were still with him. But in a way, I'm glad I'm not.
