[Opinions] Sidonie
I love this name, great alternative or sibling (maybe except for the rhyming) to all the Elodie and Leonies out there.

It's a lovely name. The only problem is that it might be confused with Sydney, but that's not that big of a deal. There's also the option of using it as a middle name so that she wouldn't be called Sydney by mistake.

I have quite a bit of friends and family over in France and I think because theyre popular there and show up a bunch on US baby name boards (but probably dont get used) I just assume its everywhere...I have a similar problem with Eulalie, I cant stand the french pronunciation and when I see it pop up sometimes on English boards I why someone wants to call their kid "oooh lahlee" but then I remember it sounds cute as "you lay lee" which I think is how you would say it here.

Are there a lot of Elodies and Leonies out there? That would be terrific because there are so few where I live. Good news. :-)Sidonie has always had an attraction for me. I've never cared for Sydney for a girl because Sidney is so male. But Sidonie, with that extra little schwa in there somehow makes all the difference. It has an allure and is almost mysterious. Very sophisticated. And yes, it's a nice change of pace from the usual sugary names.

I prefer Elodie and Leonie. I think it's funny that you think it's better than "all the" Elodies and Leonies, since those names really aren't that common! Unfortunately I find Sidonie too similar to the trendy Syndey.
