DW: Anastasia Korina Olympia "Natasa" (19)
Rank: Foreign Presence
Story: The Ill-Fated Princess Natasa had always felt different, so when her mother finally told her she was, in fact, different, it came as no surprise. Her mother said it was her fault that her sisters, Katerina and Thekla, couldn't get married. It had something to do with her "fate" but Natasa never understood what. Natasa felt horribly, she didn't want to keep Katerina and Thekla from marriage. Natasa made her mother sew her dowry inside the hem of her dress, and with that, Natasa left her home. Her mother, shocked that she had forced her daughter away, begged her to come home, but Natasa's mind was made up.
Natasa stayed with a clothier. One morning, she woke up to find all of the beautiful clothes destroyed. The clothier blamed her and her fate and he sent her away. She then stayed with a glass maker. But again, she woke up one morning to her landlord's destroyed wares. And again, she and her fate were blamed. She left the glass maker, and while searching for a new residence, she met the queen of a neighboring country. She told the queen everything that had happened to her. The queen soon realized that Natasa's fate was evil.
The queen told Natasa that she must change her fate, or else she would never find a permanent home. Natasa was sent to the top of a mountain, where she offered her fate some bread, hoping it would agree to change. Her fate, however, refused to change. After resisting for many weeks, her fate finally changed and it gave her a spool of silk thread. Upon departing, her fate told her to only give it away in exchange for its weight in gold.
In a nearby kingdom, a newly crowned king, Matthias, was to marry. But as the queen-to-be's taste changed, so did her gown. She changed the design so many times the the kingdom ran out of silk thread. Natasa heard of this and decided to trade in her silk thread for its weight in gold. As it turned out, Natasa's silk was a perfect fit. The king tried to give her its weight in gold, but even the treasury didn't house enough gold. In a last attempt, the king added his weight to the scale, and it finally tipped, showing that Natasa should have him.
At first, Matthias didn't want to marry Natasa. He didn't want to go back on a promise either, his subjects wouldn't like that. Matthias forced himself to spend time alone with Natasa, and ended up deeply in love with her. Natasa, however, had a harder time falling in love. She originally didn't want to marry Matthias either, but she needed to trade in her silk for its weight in gold, no less. Natasa never expected to fall as in love with Matthias as he was with her. After he'd pursued her for three months, Natasa finally agreed to marry him.
Matthias gave up his crown to move to Tayl with Natasa. He's had a hard time adjusting to not be in charge, but he's trying to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground in a new country.
