I knew a handfull when I was in school, so they are mid-late twenties now. All Alexander "Alex".

My cousin Alexander "Alex" or sometimes "AJ" (Alexander James) but parents. He's a junior in high school, so 16.

A friend of the family, he's a sixth grader I think this year, so younger than 15. I know he goes by Alex, but cant remember if his full name is Alex or Alexander. Another family I know doesn't have full names, and used the nn as full names, so right now I could be confusing the two....

I work in a classroom at an out-paitent hospital, and in the several months I've been there, I haven't seen an Alex come through.

Personally, it's way too common for me, and I've seen it too much to see it as anything but boring and overused. But a fresh (to my ears at least) nn can spice it up (such as Xander or Sasha... as I have not actually heard these used for a boy)

I don't know any Alexanders or Alexandras to be honest.

I feel like it's more popular than it seems, because I only know one Alexander, and he goes by Alex.

I don't think it's boring or too common- it's one of the more popular names on my list. I really like it, and I like the nicknames Alex, Lex, and Sasha.

Almost every Alexander I know goes by Alex. So hears the list:
Alex, age 17
Alex, age 18
Alex, age 2
Alix, age 65
Alex, age 12
Xander, age 4
Alex, age 1 month

On a sidenote, I also have a friend named Robert Alexander who is 35 and know a little Emmett Alexander who is 2 months old.

I find the name quite boring, although it does sound nice in the middle name spot.

I truly haven't known that many. I have one grown nephew named just Alex (not Alexander because his surname also ended in 'er' and I think my sister regretted that) and another named Christian Alexander (4). I have a good friend who named her son Robert Alexander (Alex, 13). I also have a friend whose friend has a grandson (got that?) named Alexander (Alex, about 10). I've sort of considered it myself with the nn Alec which would complement our surname. I like Lex too. I don't find Alexander boring. It's gorgeous. Having said that, I'm more interested in other names (Leo, Gabriel, Rhys, Adrian, etc.) so I doubt I'd ever go back.

I actually almost like it as a first name. It's very heroic. But it's soooo common it wants to make me yawn. I've known tons of them during my life, and all went by Alex. All ages of mid-20s to kids.

However, what is even more boring is Alexander as a middle name. It goes with anything and is so easy and fillery to me. It totally loses that heroic appeal.

Right now I know one 6 year old with this name. He goes by Alex. I know it's popular, but I don't mind at all and still love it. :)

I like it and don't find it boring. My sister considered it for her son. I know a lot of Alexanders aged between 25 and 70, and a little one who's 3. For short they're nearly all Alex except for an Alec and a Sasha - all good nns, imo.

I can actually only think of two boys, Alexander and Alexandre, both of whom went by Alex. They were both from the intl school I used to go to before moving back the states for high school. Haven't actually met and Alexanders here, I think. I have, however, met TONS of Alexis/Alexyses and Alexandras.

I love Alexander. My mother's first mn is Alexandra, so I'll very likely use Alexander as a mn if I have another son. I think it's too classic to be boring or common, no matter how popular it is. I do hesitate to put the name on my fn list just because of the sheer number of female Alexandras, Alexandrias, Alexises, Alexas, and so on. That's a lot of kids with very similar names and nicknames.

I can think of 4 Alexanders I know off the top of my head.
Alex - mid 20s
Alexander (no nn EVER, according to his mom) - 10-11
Alex - 5
Zander - about 3. His full name is spelled with the x, but they opted for a z in Zander. I don't know why.

My favorite nns are Alex and Sandy.

Well, I know several females named Alex or Alix, and they range from age 8 to 29. As for males, I know four. One is 20, and he goes by Alex. One is 49, and he goes by Lex. The last two are named Alexandre, not Alexander, and they go by Sacha. One is 24, and the other is 38.

I greatly prefer Sacha. Alexander and Alexandre are perfectly handsome names. I don't think there's anything wrong with them, but yes, I do find them a little common, mostly because of their steady use throughout history. It's kind of like Mary and John... wonderful names, but I don't think I would personally use them, because they just don't excite me anymore even though I appreciate them.

I love Alexander.
I've met a whole bunch of them though, and I've pretty much always had an Alexander in my class at school. Everyone was called Alex. I used to date a guy named Alexander, and his nickname was Alex too but it was spelled Alx among his closest friends.

It is a common name, but there is a reason why - it's a fantastic name. It's in my top three and honestly I don't care how popular it is.

Edit: Most of the Alexander's I've met is between 17-25. I also used to work at a school and in my class tehre was about 25 kids, 2 of them (6 years old) was named Alexander, but one spelled it Alexzander or something like that.

I know 9 Alexanders and there were even more still when I was at school and sixth form. The one's I know personally are mostly 18-19 years old, except for one who is 11 and another who is I think about 6.

Most of them go by Alex, Alexander or Al. But three of them go predominately by their surnames probably because there were so many Alex / Alexander's and there surnames's are more unique than being just another Alex.

I think it's handsome enough but it is overused as both a first name and a middle, I much prefer Alexey or Alasdair.

I know one, and he is two, maybe three years old.
He goes by Alex.
Not at all. But I much prefer Alex.
I mostly see it used as a middle name where I am.
