Almost no one seems to remember that there was another Rosetta Stone long before the computer program: a large granite stone, discovered in the early 19th century with Greek text, Demotic text, and Egyptian hieroglyphics. This was all the same text written in different forms, and therefore, because people already understood Greek, it became our main tool in understanding hieroglyphics.
