I've always really disliked it (and Kurt, which often sounds basically the same and feels so similar they're like the same thing to me). It's just an unnattractive syllable. I do like that it's a word for church though. I went to school with 2-3 Kirks and have known 1-2 older ones too.

Strange Kurt and Kirk as so different feeling to me. Kurt makes me think of the word curt, as in abrupt or rude or it makes me think of Kurt Cobain. Kirk makes me think of Kirkland or Captain Kirk or the name Dirk. Kirk feels Scottish to me and Kurt feels German.
