I was at school with sisters Roberta and Josephine: they went by Bert and Jody, neither of which I like at all for either gender.
I also knew a Charlene whom we called Charles. She didn't mind at all ... in fact, since she was Charlene Stephanie and had two older brothers, I imagine she would have been Charles Stephen if things had worked out differently. As it was, it seemed quite cute.
There must be gazillions of Alexandra, Alexa, Alexis etc girls who go by Alex; but I don't know any of them.
I do know two Danielle girls in their 20s who are known as Dani.
