I've seen a Gabrielle go by the nickname Gabe... It was a mind trick on me the first time I saw it. As a result, I don't like such nicknames.

Wow

That would be a mind trick on me too if I were to see Gabrielle nn Gabe in real life! I see Gabe as so in-your-face masculine that I can't picture it on a girl.

I read a book where the protagonist's mother was Gabriel, NN Gabe. It was a little weird at first, but then I got used to it.
