[Opinions] Lilith
I Love the name Lilith or as I like to spelled it Lillith. I adopted this name as my e-name and if I ever have a daughter or grand-daughter that is the name I will name her. i love this name so much because men invented a Fable to keep women subjugated to them. And a fearing woman of God that I am I do not belive in Fables of men, so the fable that lilith is a demon means NOTHING to me- but the creation of this fable resonates in my soul- therefore Lilith became a name associated to the end of the tyranical rule that men have imposed on women thru the Centuries. We women are Independent, strong and equal to man, and all that symbolizes the name Lilith to me!

It's a lovely name. I prefer the spelling Lilith myself. The fable doesn't bother me either. Basically, the only problem I see with it is that it's close to Lily and Lillian, which are very popular these days, but if you're not planning on having children soon, that may be a non-issue.
I love the name Lilith ! its sweet :]
Regardless of what it does or doesn't symbolize, I've always wondered at the fascination w/ this name on this board because I think it sounds REALLY REALLY UGLY. Of course, most "ith" names lack appeal to me... and Lil names have become extremely BORING in recent years due to Lily being used in excess... but it's your choice...
At present she'd be lost in a sea of Lily, Lilly, Lil(l)ian etc people, so the symbolic meaning would have to be explained.
I do think people are getting over the notion that biblical or, in this case, fringe biblical names carry their original connotations with them like eternal baggage: Delilah and even Jezebel are taken pretty calmly in the 21st century; naturally, outside the kind of fundamentalist circles that I don't move in.

You plan on naming your grand daughter?
That was exactly what I was thinking!
me too
Who says a son or daughter-in-law is going to give you naming rights for THEIR daughter? I wouldn't... esp. if someone wanted to give my child a name I think is ugly.

and Lilith is a totally made up myth... not at all biblical, invented by Jewish people, but not biblical... So I wouldn't even put it on that level... It looks like early on she was a twisting from people who somehow decided to feminize evil... Evil is not really something I wish to have specifically associated w/ my gender... esp. since Adam in his pre-fallen state would have likely treated a wife with RESPECT rather than force... so the whole story just doesn't wash well with me because it assumes that women were expected to be subservient to men in the pre-fallen state of the world...
Lilith is a beautiful name with some fun associations / fables. Your dd would be very lucky to have it. :-) Have you gotten as far as mns for it?
