Cat is probably the coolest.
If they're spelling it Cathleen they'll have the K/C problem regardless, so I'd say if they like Catie more than Katie, they should just use Catie. It won't cause additional problems, IMO.

I totally agree. They're already going with the unconventional Cathleen so Catie shouldn't be any more problematic. BTW, I'm starting to really like the nn Cat.
