[Facts] Aaron, Caleb
How likely is it that Caleb means "dog"? I thought the meaning was pretty much set in stone, but many on the boards claim it means something like "from the heart" (Hebrew: kelev?) and not "dog". Does anyone know? Also how likely is it that Aaron means "exalted" or "high mountain"? It says that the meaning is unsure. Anyone have any knowledge of Hebrew names and can answer my questions? Thanks!

I looked up the names in Hitchcock's Bible Names Dictionary (Roswell D. Hitchcock, 1869). I have no idea how accurate it is.AARON

You are not the first one wondering about that "dog". With Board Search you can find earlier threads, e.g. this one:

Thank you, does anyone know about Aaron?

While looking up another Hebrew name, I found this paper http://home.earthlink.net/~byls-press/hebrewName.pdf (look on pages 28-29) that suggests that Aaron (Aharon) could possibly be of an unknown Egyptian origin or could mean the meanings that you already mentioned.
