Theo has announced his intent to let the crown pass over Lan by telling the Thylosians that Lan is engaged to the Crown Princess of Nopalyous, the people who helped with the crop crisis several years back. Lan and Lovisa get along well enough, though Lovisa is a tad shy, and the pair are friends. They aren't in love but Theo, Josie, and Lovisa's parents believe that, with time, they very well may.
The Thylosians had hoped that Lan would be their future King, but after seeing how sweet him and Lovisa are together have slowly started to accept it. They make a very handsome couple, and many believe that they will produce handsome children: Lan has deep brown eyes and Josie's golden blonde hair and Lovisa has ash blonde hair and green eyes.
Three months before Lan and Lovisa's wedding Riny announced her engagement to her childhood sweetheart Oskar. Oskar is well-liked by everyone, but Theo had hoped Riny would marry a noble who was higher-up or a foreign Prince. Still, he is happy for his daughter and soon to be son-in-law and can't wait to throw them a lavish wedding as well, despite all their protests that they want it to be small. Riny has curly black hair and chocolate eyes and Oskar has black hair and hazel eyes.
Dannie has only grown more distant over the last five years. She makes sure that she puts on an act for Theo but doesn't seem to bother with Josie. Theo is close to announcing Dannie's succession but wants her to be married first so she has been considering many suitors over the past two years. Only three have sparked her eye and only one was deemed 'acceptable' by Josie, a young diplomat from Juleps. But Dannie desperately wants to marry the Kalerdan Daniel. He is cold and calculating, just like her, and has a lack of empathy. Unfortunately for her, he is not interested in the crown or her money, and he much prefers to work alone.
Alex and Chris have become adept at sneaking out of the palace over the last few years. They have recently become interested in girls and do their best to charm every single village girl they come across. Tilda, who tags along from time to time, finds their behaviour disgusting. She loves the villagers though and enjoys stitching up minor wounds some of them have as well as disinfecting and bandaging cuts.
Nessa is still very small for her age and spends most of her time indoors, in the library. Sometimes Josie or Adelheid can convince her to go outside and read but that isn't very often. The physicians are concerned that without proper exercise and fresh air Nessa will stay small and fragile, but Nessa ignores them.
Adelheid mainly stays at the palace to help out with Nessa and Tilda, but has found herself longing for the forests at Rojesch. She desperately wishes to go back there and rebuild their home but she knows they don't have enough money to do that yet, so she is content to stay in Huerdo for now.
