[Opinions] Georgian Names
So, I was reading about the singer Katie Melua on Wikipedia and I thought it was interesting that her real name is Ketevan (she's called Ketino by her family). I didn't really know about Georgian names before, and this made we want to look for more. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a lot of online resources for learning about names used in Georgia, but I was able to cobble a list together.

I got a lot of these from Wikipedia's list of Georgians and many from this site (http://www.open.ge/art/Georgian_names.htm). It was typed by a professor at a Georgian university, so I presume it has merit in regards to accuracy.

Georgian is such an interesting language, I would like to learn more about it!
I really like:
Eliso
Endzela
Iathamze - the Georgian word for violet is Ia which is also really pretty
Ketevan
Medea
Nato - may be a short form of Natalia?
Sofiko - I think -ko is a diminuative suffix and Sofiko is a form of Sofia
Vardo - the Armenian and Arabic words for rose are also similar.
Eteri and Abesalom are characters in Georgian folklore (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eteriani)
Tamar was a famous medieval queen of Georgia. More Georgian royalty: Rusudan (f), Levan (m), Mariam (I LOVE Mariam!), Gurgen (m), Irakli (m), Vakhtang (m), Teimuraz (m), Mirian/Mirvan (m).
Shota Rustaveli was a famous poet, contemporary of Queen Tamar
Amiran-Darejaniani (Amiran, son of Darejan) was a medieval romance. Darejan also shows up amongst royalty. I like it a lot as a name - I've read somewhere it is from Persian Darya or Darius, the famous Persian King, + jan/جان which can mean "soul" or "darling". I have no idea if this is the real etymology though.
Shushanik was an Armenian and Georgian saint.
Here's some more male names from Wikipedia:
Revaz, Zurab, Zviad, Merab, Davit (David), Temur, Lado, Imeda

Oh, yes. Georgian is another one of those fascinating languages that I'd like to delve into. The alphabet is absolutely gorgeous, too.
I like Tamar, Amiran, and Darejan. Great finds!

OT.
I've tried to learn Georgian and it is VERY hard, writing the alphabet is not easy whatsoever. However, I do know a few kid songs in Georgian and "Jingle Bells", haha, very random.
It's such a gorgeous, gorgeous language. Georgian and Armenian, so beautiful. Hopefully, when I'm somewhat knowledgeable in Arabic, those alphabets will be a little bit easier for me to write.

Georgian & Armenian names are so great! I pretty much love them all.
I know nothing about Georgian names at all, but great post! They're all fascinating.
