[Facts] Popularity of Gabriel
Hi everyone
I´m British but live in Spain and have a little Gabriel Patrick (nickname Gabe).I was wondering how common it is in US, UK and in Ireland. A friend at work told me that in Ireland the nickname is "Gay"....is this true/possible?! Thanks for any replies

Like a lot of Biblical names, it's particularly popular in the US.
It didn't appear in the top 100 lists for Ireland in 2002, 2003, or 2004 according to Behind the Name's data (see http://www.behindthename.com/top/ )
Sorry, I have no idea if they use Gay as a nickname anywhere.

Gabriel rose from 92nd to 40th on the list of names given to newborn sons in the United States between 1991 and 2004. (These figures are from a modification of the Social Security data which counts spellings I believe are normally pronounced the same together.) So it is also definitely rising in popularity over here.
Well in England /Wales it is ranked at 97 in the top 100, last year it was 100 so is rising in the popularity charts
