*I really enjoy these games, and I'm sure others do too. I actually thought about posting my own version, but you beat me to it a week or so ago. The only flaw with this game (any version of it) is the level of detail it requires - it can be time-consuming.*

Julianne Brownlow is an American ex-pat teaching at an international school in Brazil. Vivacious and bubbly, she prefers the diversity of Brazil to the sleepy town in Alabama where she was raised. Four years into Julianne’s stay in Brazil, the principal of the school dies unexpectedly of a heart attack. At his funeral, Julianne meets Demetrio Ventura, a funeral director. A funeral is an unexpected and uncouth place to fall in love, but Demetrio and Julianne are unconcerned. Two years later, the couple wed. Julianne puts her job on hold, hoping that she’ll soon start a family.
Year 1: A fire damages the apartment complex in which Demetrio and Julianne live. Neither is hurt, but there is significant property damage. They are grateful for insurance and a kind landlady who repairs what she is able. Still, Demetrio is devastated that the fire damaged an oil painting of his grandmother, which hung in the sitting room.

Year 2: Julianne learns from her husband that a former pupil has been orphaned. The student, 8-year old Worknesh, was the child of Ethiopian dignitaries, but they died in a tragic car accident. Worknesh has no remaining relatives, and so Julianne offers to become the girl’s guardian. Despite a tangle of bureaucratic paperwork between Brazil and Ethiopia, Julianne is able to bring Worknesh into her home.

Although Julianne intended to be a homemaker, she realizes that returning to work will provide emotional support to Worknesh and financial support to the family. Year 4: Mere weeks after returning to work, Julianne learns that she is pregnant. In May, she gives birth to a 6 lb, 8 oz baby girl. Christened Olivia Felicidade, the baby brings incredible joy to the family. Worknesh is especially excited to have a sibling.

He was the lastborn child in his household; his elder siblings were in school or had begun their own families by the time of his birth. Yeanue has difficulty adjusting to life in Brazil, and so Julianne takes an extended leave of absence to care for him.
